It was a dark and stormy day.
Seriously, there was a light rain the whole day, with a bit of a chill. If you click to enlarge the photo, you can even see the trickle of water coming off the CVAAS booth canopy! By this time of the year Fresno is usually experiencing sunshine with temperatures in the mid 80′s to low 90′s. Yesterday’s high in Fresno was 67° F.
Although the Pride Festival was dampened a bit, it did not stop people from coming out for the festivities. There was a lot of interest in the CVAAS booth, and almost everyone who stopped by was very happy to see us there. Four CVAAS members worked the booth all day. Thanks go to Jen, Tegmine, and Anthony for braving the drizzle. They handed out lots of information, and invited the curious to our next Drinking Skeptically (tonight, June 5th!). There was a lot of discussion from our booth’s visitors, and one visitor spoke about running for local government as an “out” Gay activist. However, he said he wasn’t “out” about his atheism during his campaign for fear that would make him unelectable. This is a very telling comment! And this is one of the biggest reasons why the atheism visibility movement is so important! Despite the rain this was a very successful tabling event. Expect to see CVAAS at next year’s Pride festival too!
