CVAAS Movie Night – 2012!

It’s the End of the World!  (And I feel fine…)

For our next Movie Night CVAAS will be airing the special-effects masterpiece 2012.  According to IMDB, this is “An epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.”

The movie is based loosely on the fringe theory that the world will end on December 21, 2012 – this theory is based on the popular misinterpretation of the ending of the 13th cycle of the Mayan Calendar.  Unfortunately for people who believe this wacky theory, the Mayan calendar on this day actually starts another calendar cycle, and doesn’t signal the end to anything.

Still – this film has been called the “Mother of all disaster movies” by Roger Ebert and is Producer Roland Emmerich’s second highest grossing film, right behind “Independence Day”.  If you like disaster movies, and are able to suspend your disbelief for 158 minutes, you should have fun.

And after the movie we can dissect this and other “end times” predictions, which is always fun!  As always, party mix or chips will be provided.  You are welcome to bring munchies, and are encouraged to bring your own drinks!

Date: 14 March 2010
