Today, a select group of those affiliated with CVAAS got to have an Amazing breakfast with James Randi! When I found out that Mr. Randi was coming to speak at the California State University, Fresno, I extended an invitation to take him out for a meal with our group. Randi was happy to make himself available, but wanted to make sure we would have the time. After some back and forth through email with his administrative director and with Fresno State, Randi’s assistant Sean came through for us and got us all straightened out and ready for breakfast.
And if you’ve signed up for our email newsletter, or through the CVAAS meetup website, you got an RSVP only invitation on Monday. Isn’t that a good incentive to sign up for CVAAS updates?
We had about 10 guests and our own private room at the restaurant. Everyone got a chance to speak to, and more importantly, listen to this fascinating man.
I want to stress the amount of energy that Randy exudes must be worth at least half of his “Amazing” moniker! Although he did show us a couple of slight-of-hand tricks, it was his words that kept us fascinated. He is so knowledgeable, and so quick in thought that it is a challenge to keep up with him. I think that the ratio of 10 skeptics to one Randi was about the right proportion to keep his mind in “cruise”. At least, I think that might be the case, he could have been going slow to keep from outpacing us.
It was a very enjoyable talk, and Randi was even kind enough to give us some advance news that we promised not to mention (but I will say, be ready for another announcement from the JREF!).
Mr. Randi, thank you for giving so generously of your time, thank you for your kind words, and most of all, thank you for being you!
