9th Annual Heretic’s Barbecue was a blast!

Heinna Dadabhoy was our keynote speaker!

CVAAS held the 9th Annual Heretic’s Barbecue at the beautiful Moravia Wines and Event Venue.

This year’s theme was, “Liberty, Equality, and Justice for ALL”.

The speakers for this year’s event included Heina Dadabhoy, Ashton P. Woods, and Jordan Fitzpatrick.

We had just over 50 guests from around the Central Valley who came to hear our speakers while enjoying a Barbecue Tri-tip and chicken lunch catered by Maw & Paw Barbecue of Clovis.  Moravia Wines provided wine for purchase to those who were 21 or over.

We had plenty of time to eat and socialize.
As always, this was a fun and child-friendly event.  CVAAS provided pumpkin decorating and a pumpkin decorating contest, along with a bean bag toss.  Moravia Wines provided a children’s playground, complete with a big wooden pirate ship to play on!

As part of our funds-raising efforts, CVAAS held a silent auction that included bottles of wine, items with secular and skeptical themes, hand-crafted pottery and soap, and even a telescope!  CVAAS also offered books, bumper stickers, emblems, buttons, and T-shirts for sale.  We also had a couple of free door prizes.

For the very first time, CVAAS invited other organizations to host their own tables at the Heretic’s Barbecue.   Trans-E-Motion and the Fresno Latino Atheists both accepted and had their own information display tables at this event.

We’ve got more photos of this event, plus audio recordings.  If you would like to add your own photos, please check out the Facebook page for this event!

One day Mark wanted to talk to other atheists in Fresno. So he set up a Meetup.com atheist event. Five people arrived at the very first event in late 2002. Everything that followed was a result of that.
